Glow Wire Test Apparatus Testing Principles and Product Features:

Test principle:

Glow wire test apparatus made of the material of the shape described in the standard is heated to a test temperature of 550 ~ to 960 ℃ for 1 minute using a large current value and a hot wire tester. Then, the test sample is burned in vertical position for 30 seconds by applying 0.95 N ± 0.10 N force by the reddened wire. Whether the test sample or thin wrapping paper on the base ignites from the dripping parts, the burning time and the flame length are observed, the danger of the test sample’s flammability is evaluated.

Product features:

Our device with the measurement system used to control the burning depth of the test sample gives fast and precise results. The test device is automatically operated with a motorized device that allows the sample to move towards the hot wire. When the set time is reached, the test sample spontaneously leaves the hot wire. With a temperature resistance of up to 1100 ºC (standard 1050 degrees is required), this device with 1 mm thickness of original UK LAB K type thermocouple enables a precise temperature control.

It is unique among similar products with its large touch screen, remote control, ease of use and standard cabin selection.

DEFINITIONS:

What is the Glow wire test apparatus?

The glow wire is a resistance wire with a nominal diameter of 4.00 mm ± 0.07 mm, which can be made of nickel / chrome (> 77% Ni / 20 ± 1% Cr) wire and can pass at least 120A current.

Glow wire tester

It should be designed so that it is kept in a horizontal plane during the application of the glow wire and a force of 0.95 N ± 0.10 N is applied to the test specimen. The force should be maintained at this value when the glow wire or test specimen is moved horizontally towards each other. The glow wire tip should be limited to 7 mm ± 0.5 mm to enter the test specimen and move through the sample.

Test Cabinet

The device should be operated in an environment that does not contain enough air flow.
A room with a volume of at least 0.5 m³ is considered to be sufficient volume for testing.
Ambient light falling on the test specimen in the test cabinet should not exceed 20 lux except for the redness of the wire. This is measured by a built-in luxury meter. After each test, the test location should be ventilated to replace exhausted oxygen.

Packaging paper and substrate

The wrapping paper, which is reddened from the sample and the burning parts, should be made of soft, strong and lightweight wrapping paper with a density of 12 g / m² and 30 g / m² as specified in ISO 4046 Article 4.215. The substrate on which the wrapping paper is placed should be wood with at least 10 mm thickness properly rounded.

Temperature measurement system

The end temperature of the glow wire should be measured with a 1 class thermocouple with mineral insulation, metal sheath and thin wire with insulated connection point (IEC 60584-2). The thermocouple, the welding point of which is placed in the sheath as close to the tip as possible, with the outside diameter of 1.0 mm, suitable for continuous operation at temperatures up to 960 ºC, for example NiCr and NiAl (K type) (IEC 60584-1) must have wires. The sheath should consist of a metal that is resistant to continuous operation at a temperature of at least 1050 ºC.

Glow wire flammability index (GWFI)

GWFI is the highest temperature obtained in the experiment where three test samples of the respective thickness meet three conditions below.
a) After the incandescent wire has been drawn, the longest continuous flame or incandescent (tR) in the test sample has been extinguished within 30 seconds,
b) The test specimen is not completely exhausted and
c) There is no ignition on the packaging paper.

Ignition temperature of the glow wire (GWIT)

GWIT is the highest in which three test samples of the respective thickness are based on the test where it satisfies two conditions below.
The temperature is 25 K (900 ° C and 30 K for 930 ° C) higher than the test temperature.
a) Does not ignite or
b) A self-sustaining and persistent burning of fire, more than 5 seconds for a single flame event
time does not occur and the sample is not completely exhausted.
